29th stand

It is the first Saturday of the month, and once again we share the piazza with members of Falun Dafa, dedicated to making peace and harmony in their lives through this branch of Qi Gong.

I haven’t studied their web site or literature, so I don’t know much about them, but I do find their three guiding principles–Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance–to be soul-satisfying.

It’s impossible not to wonder how the symbolism of the red lotus, which they face during their exercises and meditation today, affects them.

According to the web site Buddhist Studies, the red lotus “symbolizes the original nature of the heart (hrdaya). It is the lotus of love, compassion, passion, activity and all the qualities of the heart. It is the lotus of Avalokitesvara.

May all our activities be guided by a compassionate, passionate and loving heart. This is how we make peace in the world.
